Nigeria has significant security challenges and is confronted with instability and conflict on several fronts. The upcoming general elections in 2023 and in 2027 present a chance to improve the democratic process.
The European Union-funded Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EUSDGN) Programme, Phase II, works to facilitate a peaceful and fair electoral process that advances the country’s political and economic development.
DAI leads activities under Component 1 of the programme—Support to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)—which works to enhance the credibility of the elections and seeks to boost citizen participation across the country. Under the supervision of the EU Delegation, DAI also supports monitoring and evaluation and leads visibility activities for the project.

Champion citizens’ access to The National Assembly of Nigeria (NASS) and improve NASS engagement with constituencies.
Enhance media engagements and delivery of extensive civic and voter education.
Strengthen legal reforms and other initiatives for the inclusion of women, youth, and marginalized groups, including minorities, in politics, political parties, and in political leadership and decision-making positions strengthened.

Trained 300 judges of the Court of Appeal and Judges (members) of the Election Petition Tribunal on how to address potential conflicting judgments in electoral litigations.
Lead the signing of the Peace Accord by all presidential candidates for the 2023 General elections committing to a civil electoral process, and submitting themselves to accountability.
Mobilized more than 1,800 people with disabilities across the country to vote and be a part of the electoral process.
Introduced community outreach and sensitization programs for marginalized groups.
Trained 80 female journalists on impactful, public-interest, and investigative reporting of the electoral process.
Initiated collection of GPS coordinates of all polling stations in Nigeria, nearly 175,000 polling units, that can facilitate electoral planning, access of voters, and election observers.
DAI provides technical assistance to the European Union to ensure the effective, efficient, and transparent management of funds for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
