Since 2016, DAI has been a trusted partner for Kosmos Energy, adapting and implementing the Kosmos Innovation Center (KIC) model in various countries of operation. Drawing from the successes and lessons of previous initiatives in Ghana and Mauritania, DAI has designed and launched a new KIC program tailored to meet the unique needs of communities in Senegal.

This program, rooted in a comprehensive community needs assessment, reflects Kosmos Energy’s commitment to fostering economic diversification, advancing climate solutions, and empowering women and youth. By supporting local innovation and entrepreneurship, KIC Senegal aims to create lasting positive impacts while reinforcing Kosmos’ social license to operate.

Fostering Local Entrepreneurship in Saint Louis

The Kosmos Innovation Center in Saint Louis focuses initially on Langue de Barbarie, providing aspiring female and young entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge they need to thrive. This program is designed to help participants at the ideation stage explore entrepreneurial opportunities and develop the skills necessary to launch successful ventures.

Key Activities in Saint Louis:

  • Entrepreneurship Essentials 101 and 102: These workshops, led by experienced DAI trainers, are open to women and youth from diverse backgrounds. They aim to spark awareness of the possibilities within entrepreneurship and inspire participants to explore innovative ideas.
  • Elevate Your Business Idea: Entrepreneurs with promising ideas receive guidance in developing critical components of their business plans, culminating in the creation of prototypes.

Scaling Impact through a National Program

Beyond Saint Louis, the KIC Senegal program extends its reach through national-level initiatives that further develop entrepreneurial skills and strengthen business networks.

National Program Highlights:

  • Building Entrepreneurship Skills: A series of five in-person training sessions equips entrepreneurs with essential skills to acquire customers and effectively market and sell their products or services.
  • Mentorship Event: Participants connect with seasoned entrepreneurs and ecosystem allies to gain invaluable insights and guidance.
  • Final Pitch Event: Teams showcase their business ideas to a panel of judges, competing for prizes and recognition.
  • Incubation and 1:1 Coaching: Winners of the pitch competition receive tailored business coaching to refine their strategies and accelerate their growth.
