Shell LiveWIRE is Shell’s flagship enterprise development program, with the mission of strengthening local economies by promoting entrepreneurship, innovation, and meaningful employment.   DAI’s Sustainable Business Group (SBG) supported Shell with strengthening existing LiveWIRE programs, designing and launching new country LiveWIRE programs, developing training programs for early-stage entrepreneurs, and identifying opportunities for successful entrepreneurs to connect with Shell’s local value chain and relevant local markets.

Sample Activities

  • Run a Top Ten Innovators (TTI) challenge, a global sustainability and circular economy competition that rewards exceptional examples of innovation by Shell LiveWIRE alumni and entrepreneurs.
  • Develop country-based programs that are fit-for-purpose and in line with the budget and needs of each country. This could range from a community youth entrepreneurship/micro-enterprise training to a higher profile nationwide startup accelerator partnerships with key universities, ministries, and investors. All programs must be in line with Shell LiveWIRE’s global mandate to promote economic development through entrepreneurship.
  • Provide communications support to the entire program, via guidance for program strategy, creation and revision of editorial content, management of website development, animation of social media presence, and logistical and technical support
  • Design and refine a repository of core entrepreneurship training focused on business model design, market research, local content and procurement, and design thinking.

Select Results

  • Received 135 applications from Shell LiveWIRE graduates across 15 countries, 27,000 public votes to select the top ten innovators, and awarded $130,000 to the top ten finalists in 2020.
  • Trained more than 3,000 entrepreneurs each year in 19 countries.
  • Launched the first entrepreneurship training program for indigenous people in Canada in 2021.
