Joshua Palfreman is a Senior Global Practice Specialist at DAI, tasked with establishing and directing a new Waste Management practice.

Joshua is a waste management, recycling, water security, sanitation, and hygiene (WSSH) specialist with sound knowledge of integrated solid waste management planning, technology, and infrastructure design, municipal service planning, and private sector development (market systems) drawn from postgraduate study, 12 years of professional experience and a geographic specialty in Eastern, Southern, and Western Africa; South America; the Middle East; North Africa; and Southeast Asia.

Before joining DAI, Joshua directed his own environmental planning and consultancy company, designing, leading, and monitoring complex technical programs in Team Leader roles, for the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.K. Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, GIZ, the World Bank Group and others—supported by a team of associates and strong technical competencies in environmental engineering. Joshua also founded and co-directs an on-site waste management and recycling company and a black soldier fly composting company in Kenya and Tanzania.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Joshua grew up in Boston and has lived for the past 14 years between Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Cape Town, South Africa.
